Dogs and Glue - a sticky situation for your dog

Whilst many of the brands of glues we use at home, such as Gorilla Glue, aren't toxic for dogs, the side effects from ingestion can be life threatening.
The Vet Tech blog recalls an incident where a Shiba Inu needed abdominal surgery after chewing through a tube of Gorilla Glue. Apparently the glue tastes like peanuts and maple syrup, and I should imagine that sort of smell is just too hard for a dog not to investigate.
So why are these expanding polyurethane glues such a hazard?

Today's Salt Lake Tribune reports that a man has been arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals after allegedly feeding a dog chicken laced with 1200 mg of ibuprofen. That dose could cause acute renal failure in a small dog.
Many people administer Ibuprofen for pain relief thinking it's safe. Unfortunately it's not; small doses given over a short period of time have proved fatal.

Cocoa Mulch Kills Family's Labrador

A chocolate Labrador called Moose has died from eating an unknown quantity of cocoa mulch.
Cocoa Mulch is made from the shells of cocoa beans and is a popular garden mulch not only because it looks attractive, but it's also a good termite deterrent and is known to kill slugs - the bane of any gardener's life.
Unfortunately the mulch also contains theobromine, a substance that's toxic to dogs.
