Top 10 Reasons Dogs Visit the Vet
Posted by Clare Bristow | 1 Comment
From a review of dog medical claims in 2006, VPI Pet Insurance has identified the top 10 reasons why dogs were taken to the vet in 2006.
Whilst a couple of the conditions are more common with older dogs, you may already have visited the vet for at least one of the incidents listed.
I can tick off urinary tract infection, ear infection and eye infection. Thankfully all were caught in their early stages so were straightforward - and not too expensive - to treat.
Here is the list, in order of prevalence:

Which Toys Are Most Fun for a Puppy?

In my opinion, it's the free ones!
I just can't admit to how much I spent on plush dog toys for Zoe when she was a puppy - but I don't think I'm alone on this. Ask most puppy owners where the money goes in the first few months, and I bet it's on toys.
However, Zoe seemed to be at her happiest charging around the deck chasing an empty plastic milk carton (top screwed on to stop her cutting her mouth) or demolishing a cardboard box with great enthusiasm.
I was reminded of how much fun free toys were by this video of Bernard the Miniature Schnauzer playing with a broom - click onto Bernard's site to see lovely photos of all the other 'free' things he's found to play with!

Ibuprofen - are you aware how toxic it is?

Today's Salt Lake Tribune reports that a man has been arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals after allegedly feeding a dog chicken laced with 1200 mg of ibuprofen. That dose could cause acute renal failure in a small dog.
Many people administer Ibuprofen for pain relief thinking it's safe. Unfortunately it's not; small doses given over a short period of time have proved fatal.
