Social Networking Going to the Dogs

Posted by Clare Bristow

dogs-meeting-in-the-dog-parkA trial will be carried out in Boston in the next few months to see if the city can help its dog owners get better acquainted with each other.

Dogs participating in the trial will have little tags on their collars which will allow data about them, and their owner, to be exchanged with another dog wearing a similar tag. The information will be exchanged when the dogs come within a certain distance of each other.

Once home, the dog's owner can view the information collected by the tag on a special social-networking site. Further contact can then be made if the owner thinks they might have something in common with the other dog owners they met that day.

The device can also be used to monitor a dogs behavior when he is at home. It will be able to detect when the dog is asleep, active, relieving himself and eating - and the owner will have real time access to this information via a web browser.

The product has been developed by SNiF - Social Networking in Fur - Labs Inc., and you can find out more by clicking here.
